backstory

Elva is a young fey hailing from the twisted plane of the Feywilds, born from a stream connecting the Choking Mists and the Cave of Displacement. Honoring the colour of the water she came from, and the stream itself, she was named Olivestream to her friends. A trickster by nature, her hands were quick to weave illusions, turning dewdrops into gemstones and making mushrooms hum lullabies. The simple jest and tricks were never enough, Olivestream seeked more control over the alterations she made. She stumbled across an ancient shrine dedicated to a forgotten mortal deity, one of mischief and individuality. Aaris was bemused by her whimsy and desire, blessing her with a gift - to heal and deceive, to bless and bewilder.
Her gift made her kin marvel at her, mending broken wings with a touch and charming predators into harmless pups. The ever curious fey sought to test the limits of her gifts, and devised her most daring trick yet - an illusion that would make the stars themselves dance during the Grand Twilight Festival. The spell spiraled beyond her control. The illusions grew wild, shifting and warping in unpredictable ways. The wings she once mended shattered and dissolved, the pacified pups

lunged and growled, taking off into the village, decimating the markets in their path. Everything Elva touched withered to shadows. The chaos shattered the trust of her friends, her family declaring her a danger to the balance of the realm. She took off into The Timeless Forest, word of her exile taunting her amongst the winds. Days, possibly weeks passed, before Elva saw a shimmer in the air, a salty breeze emanating from it. Elva had heard rumours of a gate connecting her world to the material plane, but never thought she’d come to find one herself. She approached and found her world shifting, the fauna around her melting into the ground and a new forest growing around her. She took in

her surroundings, the village further west looked like home, fellow Fey going about their day, but it just felt.. wrong. Through the trees she was beckoned by the sea breeze and the dull hum of something new in the distance. She travelled east until she came across a water-side settlement - Mojitak - a beacon of hope. She found a home amongst the mortals, a job at Eldermeer Inn and Tavern granted her a chance to heal where wounds run deepest, a cleric of laughter and sorrow, spreading joy and mischief with every beverage and meal. One fateful day a traveller sitting in for a meal spoke of a letter which promised a sitting with the Archfey. The words caused Elva to freeze, and her ears to perk up. This could be her chance to right the wrong she caused in the Feywilds. She spoke with the traveller, attempting to disarm her with homebrewed beers, elixirs and a dash of deception, but she wasn’t forthcoming. Determined and perhaps deluded, Elva snuck the letter from the patron, distracting her with images of dancing lights on the table. She snuck away, thankful for the instructions left on the bottom of the letter, leaving behind the new life she had started in hopes of returning to what she knew.

She knew her father would never approve, so secretly repaired him in the nights. He was different from other Warforged and claimed to be a prototype. One night, Cin's father found them in the workshop. The Warforged threw Eduard's shears through his eyes, mimed a 'shh' at her, and left. Cin screamed, Ed didn't believe her story about the Warforged, and the guards saw Ed over the body with shears engraved with his name, and assumed his guilt. Ed was arrested, tried and executed.

    Quellians

  • Worshippers of Quellia who was discovered in Grace-Du-Mont, whereupon they set up the temples and city.

  • Nature aspected, possible Arch-Fey, though if you say that in front of the Quellians they will probably burn you alive.

  • Otherwise, usually pacifistic.

  • Also adopted by the Hoshemite pantheon not too far after being discovered.

  • Like Fey (and will treat the fey bullshit with a measure of respect).

    Hoshemite

  • A whole ass pantheon, which considers Quellia a part of it, though the Quellian worshippers of Grace-Du-Mont are a seperate faction.

  • Dont know too much about the Hoshemite, numerous gods of a whole range of aspects in the pantheon.

  • Most of the settlers of the Draguinesse Isles are Hoshemite worshippers of the varied gods in the pantheon, including Quellia.

  • There's also Sechia, Goddess of Light and Knowledge (worshipped by Vanessa).

  • The Hoshemite are neutral/hostile to fey, depending on context, but wont be explicitly respectful just because something is a fey.

    Conflict

The major schism is that the Quellians wanna worship Quellia alone, the Hoshemite adopted her in to the pantheon roman style, but the Quellians dont wanna be forced to worship all the gods of the pantheon, and resent increasing Hoshemite intrusion into the Isles, which will only get worse because there's an entire continent of Hoshemite worshippers and one city of Quellians alone.

St. Elkhart

𝐒𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝟎𝟏               Gregor and Elva were aboard the same boat from Mojitak to St. Elkhart. Immediately after getting off the boat, Gregor approached guards for help and gets directed up the hill (the wrong way.) Elva asks a useless sailor for directions, then asks the same guards who have now been joined by a lady.

  • Female human with no weapon on her person, wearing the same attire as the guards. Notably wearing a silver chain with a large book in her arms.

As Elva approaches, she overhears the lady flaming the guards for not having enough people around to search an incoming shipment. Once Elva has their attention, she is directed down the street towards Morico and Sons. Gregor catches up some time later after venturing the wrong way.

The group are told the door to speak to Morico is towards the back of the bookstore, amongst the independent authors. Instructed to knock thrice for entry. 3x3 knocked. Hobgoblin welcomed us, told us to wait for 'the boss man'. Morico greeted 3x3 by name 'Executioner.' Morico says he has become victim to a number of ship robberies while vulnerable (loading or unloading). Cargo on these ships is largely illegal, so it comes into the docks after hours. The things taken are seemingly random - never the most nor least valuable. He has set up a trap shipment for tonight, an hour after midnight. It will be arriving at the Inverness docks on the east harbor, slip 18. Boat by the name 'The Falconer.'

Morico has rented three rooms for us down the street at a Tavern by the name of "The Broken Beauty." Food and amenities are covered, 'services' at our own coin. Turns out the tavern is also a brothel. Gregor and Jonathan have their own rooms, X doesn't need to sleep so he is bunking with Elva. While waiting for nightfall, Gregor received a massage from the chef as a favour for the lady on the front desk. (Specifically - he asked for the strongest hands on staff without being handsy.) 3x3 spent all his time staring at Elva to work out what she is. She made a pillow fort/tent to escape his stares. Blobert just existed for a bit. Everyone agrees the chef's soup is amazing.

An hour before midnight, the group went to the east harbor to get set up. 'Jonathan' disguised himself as a guard and successfully convinced the guards to let us onto the docks despite there being no planned ship arrivals. They waited for a while, and eventually saw masked figures come out of the darkness, quickly taking down the two patrolling guards. Four masked figures were on the dock, with two who snuck behind onto the boat to grab a leather tube, attempting to flee with it. Guards came bursting out of the barracks on the dock, armed with muskets, shouting for everyone to stop what they were doing.

𝐒𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝟎𝟐               Gregor convinced the guards we are not the issue on the dock, and aided us in killing all but one of the masked figures. The surviving masked figure continued running into the darkness holding onto the leather tube, pursued by 'Jonathan.' Pursuit ended with a gasping plea fo rhelp from the creature, clawing at the leather container and complaining of a hunger. Jonathan took pity on the masked figure and carried its limp body to the nearest temple for healing.
Meanwhile, Gregor, Elva and X spoke to the guardsto get their story straight to avoid being arrested and/or killed. They pried the mask off the creatures using a dagger, which revealed them to be young looking females with ashy skin, red eyes, dark hair and a body covered in small black feathers.
Elva recognises the creature from stories told in the feywilds. The story refers to an archfey who didn't belong to any of the courts who tried to rise to divinity, but was cursed by the queen of air and darkness. The curse continued on through its children, though Elva did not know the name of the creature. All the creatures were equipped with the same style of dagger, all engraved with the letter "K", a makers mark. The etching isn't ornate or particularly detailed, it looks more like a stamp for someone who mass-produced the blades.

The trio left at the dock were escorted back to their accommodation by the guards to ensure they were telling the truth. There was a tall, muscular Aasimar woman manning the check-in desk, a different lady to the night prior. Gregor asked for towels to clean off his bloodied spears, and was taken around back to wash them off. The lady introduced herself as Denise, and left Elva and X in charge of the desk. Left to their own devices, X made Elva aware of his interest in one of the guards' particularly shiny, golden musket. Conveniently, he was one of the guards instructed to stay outside The Broken Beauty to stand watch for the safety of the group.
Elva poked her head out the door to find Anderson (the guard in question) on the shoulders of another, attempting to sneak a peek through the blacked-out windows. They had left their muskets unattended, leaving against the wall. Elva successfully snuck the musket away without drawing any attention to herself or causing a misfire. The heist was a great success, and X took the musket to their room while Elva waited for Gregor. He returned with Denise a short while later, who pet Elva on the head in response to her non-verbally requesting uppies.
After returning to their rooms, Elva, X and Gregor decided they should check if Jonathan was back. Without knocking, X threw his door open and was met with a gelatinous, translucent purple slime creature. It was Jonathan's true form. 'Jonathan' was confronted and as the most reasonable response, jumped out his window. He landed with a splat, and retransformed into Denise for the walk of shame back to his room. He dropped his disguise and reintroduced himself as Blobert, a pseudo-slime creature with the ability to seemingly disguise himself as anyone he has made contact with. No other secrets to be revealed, the group turned their attention to deciphering any clues from the encounter on the dock.

The leather container the creatures were trying to steal contained an ornate spyglass with a sapphire lens. The metal was engraved with gold leaf, and decorated with swirls. There is a makers mark which is unreadable, in stereotypical doctors handwriting. The name in the handwriting begins with the letter X.

While sharing the groups' findings about the nature and history of the creatures, Blobert shared news of his rescue of one of the creatures, and that he left them in the care of one of the temples. The group agreed there was nothing more to be done about the creature tonight, but would go to the temple in the morning together.
As the group were saying goodnight and departing to settle down for the night, there was a knock at the door. The hobgoblin butler of Morico came to find out how the night on the docks went and more importantly, if they uncovered any information about the persons involved with the robberies. The group shared what they knew, which the butler was disappointed by. He grumpily told the group they were being paid to get answers, and were useless without. The butler offered his services of guidance while Morico is out of town. He left, and the group disbursed for a well-deserved rest.
On the second day of their quest, Elva, X and Gregor met in the halls to make plans for the day. They found Blobert had already left, and a note was left under his door. The note seemed to be a shopping list of very specific items, including the spyglass they acquired the day before.

The note was pocketed with no idea what correlation the items had to each other. The trio who remained at the tavern decided to venture into town to find some gear and tools for X to replace his crossbow with the musket. In the meantime, Blobert was on his way to the temple he left the creature in the night before. On his arrival, he was approached by the same healer who told him the creature escaped after murdering one of the younger healers, and fled towards the outersteads.
Elva, X and Gregor visited 'Carsons Curios', a shop mentioned to them by Blobert the day before. The three browsed the shelves and bookshelves, and being a store of just trinkets and odd gadgets, they couldn't find what they were looking for. Elva did, however, find a note tucked within the pages of a book titled 'Man Of Her Dreams.' The note said - "meet me in the Hoshen graveyard near the oak tree at midnight. Bring a shovel," with a dried kiss mark on the back. They inquired with the shopkeeper for X's tools and an offhanded question about the recent thefts from incoming & outgoing ships. The shopkeeper told the three that information comes

the list:

  • Silver Mirror

  • 10 sqyd enchanted silk fabric

  • 10 lb red phosphorous

  • 1 liter dragon blood, white

  • 2 enchanted gemstones

  • Antique masterwork tools

  • 2 sqyd tortle leather

  • 'The Mistress' painting, gold frame (enchanted?)

  • 10 cold iron ingots

  • Lemetti spyglass, sapphire lenses.

    Hope this helps!
              - JM

with a price. Gregor haggled the price of a lute down from 8 gold to 2, and having spent gold Elva pried for information. The shopkeep laughed, and named his price for information at 5 gold spent in the shop. Elva, annoyed by the ever-changing condition for information took to flying on the desk of the shopkeep and threatening to break his fingers if he didn't start talking. He disgustedly pulled his hand from below Elva's foot, demanding for them to leave.
Gregor picked Elva up and took her out of the shop, notably seeing a list of sponsors near the door with a recent addition written in pen for 'Joosten Silversmith.' X threw a stool through Carsons' front window as the two came out, and took off around the corner to get out of eyesight. The four regrouped, and shared their findings or lack thereof.

𝐒𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝟎𝟑               The group returned to the hilltop district, which has a notably heavier guard presence than the lower levels, which were more generally populated, particularly the 'fey quarter.' They asked about the Silversmith and was told it was likely in the industrial area, on the west wharf, along the coast road. They ventured out and came across a shabby shop with two chimneys, and a sign which reads 'JS'. It also has an attached workshop. X and Elva sit out the meeting in the silversmith on the roof, being the two more abnormal looking people in the group.
